CLIENT STORY:
Defining Moments

Meet Susie,
Coach and Trainer:

Q: How did you hear about Kristin and why did you hire a coach? What did you want to see happen in your life?

A: Thomas Leonard, founder of the coaching industry, originally recommended Kristin to me in 2000. I hired Kristin to coach me on key projects in my life, business, and careers from 2000-2004, usually for 3-6 months at a time.

Initially, my main goal was to:

  • Grow my coaching practice and maximize efficiency.

After doubling my coaching practice, I hired Kristin for several other projects during a four year period. So, my goals eventually evolved and I was coached to transition my business, find more balance, and practice excellent self care during the planning of my wedding and later during my pregnancy.

Q: What was memorable or meaningful about your coaching experience with Kristin? Would you change anything?

A: Having someone stand in my corner for important life events. For example, she was persistent with me as I worked on putting more self care into my life, even when it was challenging for me with a busy schedule.

Q: Why do you think coaching works? What about it worked for you?

A: Because it's consistent and because we are not objective with ourselves. A coach can get in there and quickly see or help you identify what the next step is.

Q: What are Kristin's strengths as a coach?

A: I am grateful to Kristin and her keen ability to listen deeply and move things forward in a direct way. She has a good combination of qualities in that she is calm, powerful, strong, kind, professional, and open to feedback. In fact, she is one of the most professional and effective coaches I've ever met. She really is an asset to the coaching profession.

Q: Do you feel your coaching dollars were worth it? Why or why not?

A: Money well spent. Well, for one thing, I would not have been a serene and centered bride for my wedding, I would have been a crazed organizer. That was well worth it. On the business front, my coaching practice doubled, so her fees paid for themselves within 60 days.

Q: What are the tangible results of your coaching experience?

A: Kristin assisted me in doubling my already full and successful coaching practice and helped me manage my time much more effectively. When I chose to take a career detour and applied for competitive jobs in Silicon Valley, Kristin was instrumental in preparing me for interviews and for ultimately obtaining a position. I was 2 of 200 applicants who received offers for a spot after Seminar Leader position at Cadence Management. Kristin's skills in this area were exceptional.

Q: What are the intangible results of your coaching experience?

A: I also hired Kristin for other defining moments in my life. Namely, she helped me prepare for my wedding, not just in terms of defining cast, but by asking me the important question: "What kind of bride do you want to be?" She helped me to center myself and enjoy one of the best days of my life. When I got pregnant the following year, I turned to Kristin again to make sure I was rested and balanced when baby came. (I was shifting out of my fast pace, seminar leading job that entailed national travel and sales quotas, and into maternity leave.) Without Kristin's help, I know I would have powered through my job for too long, and I knew I couldn't do that. The health of my baby was of the utmost importance. Through obtaining deep rest, joy, and balance during my final months of pregnancy, I delivered a healthy and beautiful baby.

Q: Any other comments for someone considering coaching?

A: I highly recommend Kristin and know she will continue to make a significant difference for her clients and those whom her clients touch.

Coach's Comments

You can design the coaching relationship to serve you in the best possible way. Many of my clients are coached for a solid year or longer. Other clients, like Susie, hire me for shorter term projects and take breaks in between each project. This strategy is really effective because it allows the client to build rapport with the coach and to make progress, and then tap back into that coach during other key moments of their life.

As a fellow coach, I really enjoyed coaching Susie. It was an honor for me to support Susie during important career developments and personal milestones such as her wedding and pregnancy. I'll never forget the conversation we had when I asked Susie to describe her ideal wedding day and, more importantly, how she wanted to be as a bride. When she reported back to me that the day went as planned, I was truly happy for her since I know how difficult it can be to remain centered in the midst of chaos. In fact, during my own wedding time last year, I reflected back on some of the comments I shared with Susie and was able to enjoy a centered and peaceful wedding day as well. Sometimes my clients teach me what I need to know.

Even though I maintain a very full practice, I always try to make space for a return client such as Susie. I know how important the coaching relationship is and I always look forward to reconnecting with my clients during important moments of their lives.
